Here is a list of everything I've watched in the month of June 2020...

Not going to lie, some of these are pretty random. I have reached the bottom of my quarantine watchlist I made in March, which resulted in some unusual watch patterns. Most of these are quick, easy, and short watches, while I mainly focused on a few new tv series.
About 30% of this list includes my Actor Study carried on from last month, but a surprising amount is new watches, with some nostalgic comfort movies like Matrix.
Overall, a pretty scattered viewing pattern, This might be due to the nice weather, my workload, and honestly a little bit of watching fatigue. Last month I made a new record with 46 movies, my brain needed a little break, and what better to heal with some small Indies and some 1970's classics.
As with all my monthly logs, here were my top first time watches of the month....
The Great
this is a lot to handle.
I really enjoyed this show.
This is not for everyone, but if you liked The Favourite this show is for you. The series has this energetic, vibrant and odd quality that at times can be overwhelming. I had to spread out my viewings over the course of a few days just due to the immense saturation of comedy, color, and performances.
Don't get me wrong, I loved every second, and hoping during award season this show gets some recognition. I'm already anticipating for the future season.
The production design is absolutely breathtaking. It's both historically appropriate however, the color palette is very contemporary and vibrant. The grand set design and wardrobe are echoed through the over the top performances from Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult. This might be my favorite role from both.

Aloft
holy performance.
I was really close to a standing ovation, not gonna lie....
This wasn't my favorite and something I wouldn't recommend for the average viewer. However, I had to take a moment to talk about the final monologue that made up for the entire film.
The structure wasn't as effective as I believe the filmmaker intended and I found myself not as invested as I was hoping to be. Again, this is a very indie film, it's not meant to be a large entertainment piece, but it doesn't excuse the poor screenplay. There was a lot of intercutting but for extremely long sequences. This film was another case of an extremely talented cast but average execution.
HOWEVER.
The reason why I wanted to take a moment to talk about this film is the last monologue from Cillian Murphy's character. Nobody can deliver a long, serious, intense dramatic monologue as he can. The theatre actor took over, and my god was it impactful. After watching about 80% of all his work, and being fully aware of the intenseness of Thomas Shelby from BBC's Peaky Blinders. This performance blew me away. If there's anything to take away from this film, it's struggling to sit through the entire film for the last final moments.

His Dark Materials
it's been 84 years....
FINALLY!!
I loved The Golden Compass growing up. Watched in theatres, owned the videogame, the whole nines. I was always upset that a sequel was never made. Years later, HBO saves the day.
Although most of this story I already knew from the previous movie, I'm amusing this series is more in line with the book. I always stayed away from the novels because I was always wanting to experience the story firstly through the screen rather than a page. I have yet to pick a side of the book to screen argument, and for this series, unless it gets canceled again I just might have to resort to that.
Season One was pretty much 'The Golden Compass' I'm excited for the story beyond given the fact I have no knowledge of what's to come. This seems like a franchise that has an opportunity for multiple seasons, I'd hate for another cancellation.

Sorry to Bother You
absolutely wild.
Bold, Bright, and Punchy Social Commentary. This was an excellent film, and one I had on my list since it's first initial release back in 2018. 5 stars for the wildly underrated cast, 5 stars on the cinematography, and most importantly 5 stars on Framing.
There was not one color in existence that wasn't used in the film and every frame told a story with color and staging. There is an infinite amount of detail in this film, that requires another viewing to spot them all.
On top of being well-executed production-wise, the screenplay is genuinely a modern comedy. There's a uniqueness to the film and it's probably not for everyone. Due to the current state of our world right now there was no better time to watch this film.
There are some really bizarre moments and honestly, I couldn't summarize the film in much detail due to the oddity and strangeness of the sequenced events. Another film with infectious energy about it, that provides lots of laughs and social topics to think about.
