Sherlock | Rewind/Revisit

Rewind, Revisit, Rediscover.

Let's look at....

Sherlock (2010-2017)

I've rewatched a few selective episodes here and there but haven't completed a full binge, in a very long time. Rewatching it back, in some ways, was like I was experiencing the show, for the first time, since 2013.

It's not that I had fully forgotten how incredibly executed the series was, but this revisit was a real refreshing take and reopened my eyes to the amazing attention to detail. I love how each episode, has it's own identity, acting as it's own stylized film.

Looking back, it's no doubt that the show was way ahead of it's time.

Each frame a carefully crafted image, a perfect portrait framing and reflecting either the character, or central focus of the scene.

The framing in this show is a symmetrical lovers dream, with unique and complex transitions that are now slowly coming back into the mainstream. Sherlock was one of first mainstream shows to take risks in elaborate transitions all shot practically in camera.

I'd forgotten how comedic the series was, the writing and characters thrive off of dry, sarcastic dark humour, which is not for everyone but still manages to absolutely destroyed me in the delivery of excellently excused performances.

As one of the most successful BBC shows, this iconic staple in television, still holds in wit and charm.
